Later this year, the Young Carers Hub will be launching a Young Carers identification card in partnership with NHS Tayside. This ID card will be offered to all young carers registered with the service. It is hoped that the card will allow young people to be better recognised by professionals as a young carer, specifically in schools and by health professionals.
We would note at this point that the ID cards are a pilot to see how well the ID cards work and the first phase is to distribute cards to 8-12 years olds, followed by secondary age young carers at a later date.
This year the Young Carers team have organized a jam-packed Christmas Extravaganza on the 15th December, 11am to 3pm at The Gateway in Perth.
The Scottish Government is consulting on the development of the policy and regulations for the Young Carer Grant, a new benefit which will be delivered by Social Security Scotland.
