PKAVS Young Carers supports young people between the ages of 5 and 17 who provide care or assistance to a family member of any age who has a disability, physical or mental long term health condition or is affected by drug or alcohol misuse.

The Young Carers team provides opportunities for young carers to be children first and to support them to manage their caring responsibilities. ‘Brian’ is a 14 year old boy who lives with his mum and three sisters. Brian is a very anxious young man who has barely attended or engaged with school over lockdown. He has had debilitating anxiety in regards to COVID-19 and how this is managed by others outside the home. Brian cares for his mum who has a myriad of physical and mental health illnesses and his sisters who have ASD.
