Equipment and Technology

There are many different form of how technology can help make life easier for you as a carer but also for the person you support. Some of these are mentioned below:

Equipment and changes to your home

  • A simple item such as hand rails or a ramp can make all the difference for the carer and the person you support. Different equipment or alterations to the home can make your life a little easier and give the cared for more independence within the home.
  • You may be entitled to health and care technology or a grant for adaptions to your home. These would both be dependent on the care needs of the person you support, find out more at www.carersuk.org/equipment.

Telecare and telehealth care (Community Alarms)

Telcare, also known as community alarms, can provide peace of mind for carers and their cared for through a 24 response service.

This is an important tool that means the cared for can live more independently and within their own home.

  • Telecare: Unobtrusive sensors placed within the home, can detect problems such as a fire or gas leak, or if the cared for needs assistance.
  • Telehealth: can monitor the health of the person you care for remotely, through the equipment in the home i.e. asthma, stroke, diabetes. This information is sent to a health provider through the internet or telephone.
  • For more information go to carersuk.org/telecare

These are only some of the options that may make life as a carer a little easier, make the home a safer place and allow the person you support to live a more independent life.

To apply for Telecare or find out if you or the person you care for are eligible for Telecare assistance please contact the Community Care Access Team on 0345 3011120 or email AccessTeam@pkc.gov.uk.
